Best Upright Exercise Bikes - Guide and Review

When it comes to exercise, it can be hard to find time to be active. Especially if you spend all day sitting at work or at home, finding the energy and motivation to work out can be exhausting in its own right.

That’s why, instead of trying to take yourself to the gym or go outside to run, you can simply bring the equipment to you, so exercise becomes a super convenient part of your day. One of the best pieces of equipment you can own is an upright exercise bike.

These machines allow you to get a full-body workout without ever having to leave the comfort of your home. Also, since you’re sitting and pedaling, the machine itself is relatively low-impact, although you do still have to be careful about your knees, especially if your legs are long.

Nonetheless, upright exercise bikes are a great addition to any home fitness routine, and today I’ll show you why, as well as showcase some of the best upright bikes on the market.

Recommended Upright Exercise Bikes

Loctek Desk Exercise Bike Foldable Upright Cycling

If you’re a person who loves to multi-task, then the Loctek Desk Exercise Bike is for you.

This versatile machine is specifically designed to allow you to work out while you work, providing you with the necessary stability to both be on your computer and pedaling at the same time.

For anyone who want to “synergize” the workout experience, Loctek has you covered. What’s really nice about this bike is the fact that it is so easy to maneuver into place.

The chair also folds up so you can store it almost anywhere without it being too big or bulky. Simply put, Loctek made sure that you have no excuse not to use this bike while you work since it’s so incredibly easy to use.

As far as functionality, the Desk Bike has the comfort and performance that you need. Adjusting the seat height is a breeze, as is adjusting the level of resistance. A knob at the front turns to increase or decrease the degree of difficulty, so you can quickly change on the fly.

What's really cool, however, is the fact that you can turn down the handlebars in the front to use as a desk for working. With that added feature, you could literally set this bike up anywhere and be productive.

Finally, this model comes with an LCD screen that shows you time, distance, speed, calories burned, and even your heart rate.

Exerpeutic Folding Magnetic Upright Bike

If comfort and convenience are the driving factors to getting workout equipment into your home, then a great choice for you will be the Exerpeutic Folding Magnetic Upright Bike.

This compact unit is a breeze to take out and place wherever you want, whenever you need it.

Much like the Loctek model, this bike is designed to be as versatile and maneuverable as possible. The bike is lightweight and folds in the middle so you could keep it stored in a broom closet or something similar when you’re not using it.

However, in my experience, if you keep your exercise equipment out of sight, you may not use it as often. With regards to performance, the Exerpeutic bike has what you need. A large, soft seat enables you to bike for longer periods of time without getting sore.

Also, there is no backrest to this model, so you will be working out your core as you ride, giving you a whole body workout. To help you get the most out of your routine, there are eight levels of resistance that can be easily adjusted via the knob on the front.

Finally, this unit comes with an LCD screen to tell you time, distance, speed, calories burned, and your heart rate. This bike also comes with a one-year limited warranty from Exerpeutic.

Schwinn 170 Upright Bike

If you’re serious about losing weight, then you need a machine that can help you realize your fitness goals and can take whatever punishment you put it through to get there.

That being said, the Schwinn 170 Upright Bike is a professional-grade machine that has all the features and amenities you could ask for, just short of coming with a complimentary hot towel and a sauna for relaxing.

This is one of the best upright exercise bikes you can buy. What makes the Schwinn 170 such a great piece of equipment is the fact that you can customize your workout to match your intensity.

Most home exercise bikes have only a few settings to help improve your routine, but the 170 comes with 29 different programs from which you can choose, as well as four different profile options and an online tracking system so you can monitor your progress in real time.

Also, to ramp up the intensity of your workout, you can increase the resistance up to 25 times, making it one of the most versatile bikes out there. Other great features of this bike are the dual LCD screens for better monitoring of your vitals.

The display shows your time, distance, calories burned, heart rate, and speed. Also, you can plug in via USB or a data cable so you can hook up your phone and play music. Nautilus U616 Upright Bike

Next, we have the Nautilus U616 Upright Bike.

Nautilus is one of the most well-known brands out there for home fitness, and the U616 is a perfect example of the company’s commitment to health and wellness.

Much like the Schwinn 170, this bike is ideal for anyone who is really serious about getting into shape. This machine has all of the high-quality features that you would expect from a piece of gym equipment, so you are assured that you can get a professional quality workout from the comfort of your living room.

The U616 is a heavy-duty bike that’s made to withstand all kinds of punishment and abuse. The seat for this bike is fully adjustable and has over a dozen settings so you can get just the right height.

What sets this bike apart from more casual offerings (like the Loctek model) is the center console. This machine can tell you everything you need to know to get to your next fitness goal.

The console has two LCD screens. The first screen is used to display whichever preset program you choose. The unit has 29 different settings for you to utilize for maximum gains. The bottom LCD screen shows your vitals, such as heart rate, calories burned, speed, time, and distance.

What I also like about the console is that you can plug your phone in via USB, and you can also hook it up to play music via Bluetooth. I always need some good music to get my energy up, and I love the fact that I can jam right from the machine itself.

Schwinn A10 Upright Bike

Finally, we come to another professional model by Schwinn; the A10 Upright Bike.

Like it’s cousin the 170, this model is built for fitness buffs who want to bring the gym experience into their own homes.

However, it’s important to note that the A10 is not as intense as the 170, and thus comes with slightly fewer features. Nonetheless, if you are serious about fitness, this is a great bike to get you started.

As far as the body of this model goes, everything is pretty straightforward. It has a standard full bottom bike seat which adjusts vertically so you can get the ideal height for your workout.

The pedals have foot straps to keep you in place and help maintain form. The real gem of this bike is the center console, which offers plenty of features to track your fitness as you go.

There are seven different workout programs coupled with eight levels of resistance. As I mentioned, this model is not as intense as the 170, but it’s perfect for anyone who wants to move towards getting into shape.

The console also features a display for your vitals, including heart rate, calories burned, and distance. There are also speakers built-in to the unit so you can play music while you exercise.

Final Verdict

For me, the whole reason to buy exercise equipment for my home is so that I don’t have to go to the gym to get into shape. That being said, I prefer a bike that I can use for an intense workout so I can really feel the burn.

If that’s what you’re after, then I would highly recommend either the Schwinn 170 model or the Nautilus U616. Both of these bikes are professional-grade and will help propel you towards your fitness goals.

If you’re a more casual exerciser, then I would suggest the Exerpeutic Bike since it can fold up for easy storage and is a snap to use.

Overall, you can use any of these bikes to get the results you want, but I would strongly suggest that you get a model that can track your progress and give you extra levels of resistance so you can ramp up the intensity when you have to.
